As the ministry of health is raising awareness campaigns on prevention of cholera for some time now, Kauma village in area 12, Lilongwe, has registered a high number of cholera cases, this year alone.
On a very sad note, the outbreak has already claimed two children earlier this month living other people in critical conditions at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.
Up to date, the Lilongwe city council has not yet established a place where people in the area can rid their wastes. The villagers at Kauma owe this problem by disposing waste resources in the nearby streets and rivers.
Even though this is the case, I edge the people in Kauma and areas to take full responsibility of their lives. If they can still wait for the city council, more lives will be lost in a minute, hence they have to create innovative measures to curb the outbreak. For instance, the can cycle the water, dug a dubbing place and stay clean among others.
In a nutshell, Malawi experiences Cholera outbreaks mostly in rainy season due to contamination of water with wastes in river and other lakeshore areas. We need to unite in order to save many by following all the necessary conditions to stop further spread of the disease.
One day, we will all sing a happy and hopeful song together, for the reward of good healthy for us, and for the coming generations.
